Rumors from
The 5th Day of Early Dusk, In the Year of Our Keeper, 5397

This bit o'gossip I heard the other day from a Havanathe trader makin' his way north to Savoy. Said he'd got his hands on a stack o'scrolls an' was hopin' them wizards up at Oesch-Onarga would be lookin' to buy them. But that's neither today nor tomorrow. So this Havanathe comes in an' tells me somthin' 'bout this batch o'trees called Darkenwood, down near the southern hump of the Independent State. Ye know, borderin' up 'gainst the Kingdom o'Aarenki? No? Well, have another pull o'yer ale an' maybe ye might remember where it is I'm speakin' of. So this Havanathe trader tells me that he was comin' north from the hump an' was passin' through this Darkenwood on the west side o'this river that splits the Independent State from Aarenki an' - no, I don't know the name o'the river - an' he sees these plants growing faster than they should be, with this ball o'light shinin' all 'round them. He said it was as though the plants had a mind o'there own, he did. Course, this is comin' from a Havanathe trader, an' ye know how reliable they are!

A couple o'Fpathen came in the other day, talkin' soft about the Tassarak over in Derras Knog. Ye know, over in Kinashae? No? Ye don't get out much, do ye. Anyway, the Fpathen were talkin' - oh, ye know how hard they were hit a bit o'years back by those stinkin' orcs. Those pig-faced vermin nearly cleaned out Kinashae o'everythin' livin' but them, they did. So the Fpathen were talkin' soft an' - well, I got ears, don't I - an' they were sayin' that the Tassarak have been movin' north into the Forest o'Kinashae more an' more as o'late, hittin' some o'the smaller hamlets and villages. Darn near 'round twenty, they said. Seems the walkin' lizards were lookin' fer Fpathen children, cause that's all they took. Boys mostly, it sounded like. No, the Fpathen didn't say what fer, and I doubt they'd be enterin' Derras Knog any day soon to find out, either. Just makes ye wonder, don't it? Here, have some more dragonberry pie. Me misses made it fresh this morn.

Ye know 'bout that King up in Arvandus, don't ye? Tearsac of the Prairie, or the Plains, or somethin' like the such. Right, the Fpathen with the pointy ears. So ye know 'bout the Dervatear up in Arvandus an' how King Tearsac has been enslavin' them since he took the throne? Oh, somethin' like sixty years or so, I'm thinkin'. Well, a group o'Dervatear came in here the other day - travelin' to Tsan with o'caravan, I think - an' they were talkin' about a revolt o'some kind up in Arvandus. Seems a bunch o'Dervatear not held by King Tearsac formed what ye might call a war party an' hit three big slave trains headin' up to the coast o'the Inner Sea. It was a slaughter, they said. All of the King's men were killed, an' all the Dervatear were set free. Ye know, if they got a bit smarter, they'd leave Arvandus an' head back to Tsan with the rest o'the Dervatear. Don't know what those runts see in those Fillian an' Kienkin Mountains anyway.
